The goal of the MAP Center is to guide students as they advance along their educational and career path. This goal is accomplished through student support in four main areas: academic advising, career advising, transfer guidance and co-curricular planning.
The MAP Center is located in room 243 of the Betz Technology Center and is pleased to offer in-person, phone and virtual appointments and can accommodate students on a walk-in basis.
If you are planning to attend college next semester and have not yet filled out your 2024-2025 FAFSA form, now is the time! Schedule a timeslot with an advisor to get help with your FAFSA.
One of the greatest resources any student can have is an academic advisor to navigate the pathway to reaching your academic goals. Every student will be assigned a faculty advisor who is an expert in their program. During the first semester, all students will be assigned a Navigator through the MAP Center to ensure a great start at LCC. The Navigator will work closely with the student to discuss programs offered at LCC, select courses, identify course prerequisites, modify class schedules and discuss steps necessary for transferring to a four-year college or university.
Many students come to college with unclear career goals and even those students who believe they have a definite idea of a career can find these plans change during their time at college. The MAP Center can help in a number of ways. We have two career assessment tools that students have found to be incredibly helpful in answering the important question – what do I do after college? The MAP Center can help you showcase your education and skills by providing assistance with job search strategies, cover letters, resume, and interviewing.
If your educational and career goals require a four-year degree or graduate degree, the MAP Center staff can provide assistance in getting you connected to your future institution. Stop in, call or email us or click on the links below.
Not all learning happens in the classroom. At Lamar Community College, we encourage students to take advantage of opportunities outside the classroom to build leadership skills needed in the workplace, expand your knowledge of possible careers, and network with people that will make a difference in your future.
