Certificate Programs

In addition to the degrees available through Lamar Community College, students may earn a Certificate of Study by successfully completing specific sequences of coursework. Certificate programs are designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in occupational and professional areas. They also provide the opportunity to upgrade skills or acquire additional skills in occupational fields.

Students enrolling in certificate programs are subject to the same basic skills requirements as those enrolling in degree programs.


 

 

Accounting Certificate

This one-year program teaches the student basic accounting and payroll skills and augments a student’s basic writing skills. With electives, the student may pursue additional knowledge in income tax, business law, business report writing, and/or accounting software packages. The certificate prepares the student to be a full charge bookkeeper in an accounting department and equips the student with the skills needed to advance beyond that level. The program gives the student the necessary academic background to complete an associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, if one so desires.

Agriculture Certificates

The Agriculture and Precision Agriculture certificate programs offer students the workforce skills to perform the essential functions within the scope of practice that an individual desires a career/employment in. These certificates are “stackable” into the AGS and AAS degrees.

This one year certificate allows students to focus solely on agriculture studies. It introduces students to the basics of animal science, agronomy and ag business.

This certificate integrates state-of-the-art technology throughout the curriculum to provide students with the knowledge and skills to address a growing industry need in the technology of precision agriculture.

Business Certificate

Today’s business support personnel perform functions in coordination of various activities within an organization. Upon successful completion of the Business Certificate program, students possess basic skills and knowledge necessary for an entry-level position in a business organization.

Construction Trades Certificates

Construction Trades certificates prepare graduates to directly enter the construction trades industry. The certificates are designed to be completed in one year. The curriculum also provides the flexibility for experienced contractors and trades practitioners to upgrade or broaden their skills and knowledge. The certificate program includes many courses required in the Associate of Applied Science Degree and credits may be applied toward earning the degree.

Construction Trades Essentials Certificate

The Construction Trades Essentials Certificate provides entry-level as well as upgrading skills courses for a solid foundation in construction.  This certificate includes an introduction to carpentry, computer-aided drafting, hand and power tools, and OSHA industry standards, all while getting plenty of hands-on experience.

Interior Building Certificate

This certificate builds on skills learned in the Construction Trade Essential Certificate and Construction Trades Exterior Building Certificate and focuses on interior building completion including carpet, interior finishes, and remodeling.

Construction Trades Mastery Certificate

This certificate builds on skills learned in Construction Trade Essential Certificate, Construction Trades Exterior Building Certificate, and Interior Trades Building Certificate and focuses on managerial skills necessary to operate a construction trades business. This includes reading and writing contracts and building plans, experiencing real-job experience through an internship or leadership on-site within the construction trades program, and gaining further specialization through either welding or knowledge in energy efficient construction practices.

Cosmetology Certificates

The Cosmetology Department offers four certificate programs designed to provide the successful graduate with the skills and knowledge needed to acquire licensure in these fields: Barber, Cosmetology, Hair Stylist, and Nail Technician. The course of study in each field has been approved by the Colorado State Office of Barbers and Cosmetology.

Barber Certificate

The Barber certificate is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to complete the exam for licensure as a barber, including working with the scalp and hair of the head, performing face shaving and beard trimming and basic barber facials. Instruction is provided through classroom, clinical, and applied learning activities.  It offers the newest techniques and hands-on experience needed, as well as the business skills and management preparation to launch a successful career in the barbering industry.  The course of study has been approved by the Colorado State Office of Barbers and Cosmetology.

The Cosmetology certificate is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills necessary to complete the exam for licensure as a cosmetologist. Instruction is provided through classroom, clinical, and applied learning activities delivered in three phases: introduction, intermediate, and advanced. Students may enter the program in the fall, spring, or summer semester.

The Hair Stylist Certificate is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to complete the exam for licensure as a hair stylist. The Nail Technician Certificate is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to complete the exam for licensure as a nail technician. Emergency Medical Technician Certificates

LCC offers two Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificates: Basic and Intermediate.   Successful completion of the Emergency Medical Technician – Basic certificate allows a student to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Basic Exam, while completion of the Intermediate Certificate allows a student to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Intermediate Exam as well as take the National Registry of EMT’s Advanced level practical examination. In most cases, EMS students qualify for partial or full scholarships.

Health & Wellness Certificate

The Health and Wellness Certificate program (HWP) is focused on developing students who can demonstrate knowledge of human movement to improve quality of life for both individuals and society. It will prepare students for jobs in personal training, as well as in physical and occupational therapy settings. HWP majors will demonstrate the ability to reflect on and clarify their own values resulting in genuine respect for differences among people and ideas in individual, group, community, and global health promotion settings. HWP majors will demonstrate effective oral and written health communication skills. HWP majors will develop skills to effectively motivate changes in health behavior, utilize health assessment tools and to plan, implement and evaluate health promotion programs among diverse populations and in various health promotion settings.

Horse Training & Management Certificates

LCC offers three one-year certificate programs within the Horse Training & Management (HTM) program: Fundamental Horse Training, Starting Colts, and Advanced Horse Training.

Fundamental Horse Training is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge and skills to prepare them for introduction to the Horse Training industry. Students will earn this certificate of study by completing the 100 level courses found in the Horse Training AAS degree.

Starting Colts is designed to provide students, through hands-on experience, with the skills and knowledge needed to break colts for riding.

Advanced Horsemanship Certificate

Advanced Horsemanship builds upon skills and knowledge acquired in the Starting Colts certificate program. It combines hands-on experience with a one-semester internship with a professional trainer.  Admission to Advanced Horsemanship requires prior successful completion of the Starting Colts certificate program, or permission of the program instructors.

This certificate will provide skills to promote marketing within a small business, including an understanding of technology used in marketing with hands-on projects. Students will gain an understanding of broad marketing functions in management settings while gathering information about the business environment.

Nurse Aide Certificate

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certificate program allows students to enter the nursing profession at its most basic level. Successful completion of the course qualifies the student to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination.

Welding Certificates

The college offers stackable certificates in welding.  The Welding Certificate provides entry-level as well as upgrading skills courses in welding technology. The program is offered on an open enrollment basis. Students may complete certain courses to enter the workforce then return to complete the program or to upgrade skills. Students interested in starting their own welding contracting business may want to consider enrolling in additional coursework offered through the Business program to complement their welding skills.

Basic Welding Certificate

This Certificate provides entry-level skills courses in welding technology.  Students who complete the basic welding certificate will be qualified for entry level positions in welding shops.  These would be at the lowest rate of pay and would require additional training to be provided by the employer.  This certificate is essentially designed to provide the foundation for the intermediate and advanced welding certificates.

Intermediate Welding Certificate

This Certificate builds upon the knowledge gained in the basic skills certificate to provide entry-level and advancing skills courses in welding technology.  Students who complete this certificate will be prepared for more complex applications in the welding industry.  Completion of this certificate will qualify welders for careers in fabrication and/or repetitive application processes performed in most manufacturing shops.
