Phi Theta Kappa Holds Fall Induction

Lamar, Colorado, November 1, 2023 Lamar Community College’s Beta Eta Gamma chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society inducted 14 new members during the fall induction ceremony held on Wednesday, November 1. New inductees include: Reece Block (Bristol), Brocc Brodecky (Lamar), Johanna Brown (Lamar), Marissa Bumann (Lamar), Cooper Dorenkamp (Holly), Brooklyn Gefre (Johnstown, CO), Darling Harris (El Paso, TX), Chloe Johnson (Campo), Rachel Kopasz (Eads), Dianeyd Lopez (Lamar), Megan Melendez (Las Animas), Evan Muhlberger (Albuquerque, NM), Bekah Navarrette (Lamar), and Chas Salazar (Las Animas).

After a welcome from Chapter President Jami Jo Quick and LCC President Dr. Rosana Reyes, LCC Head Women’s Volleyball Coach and longtime Lamar education and athletics leader Dave Tecklenburg was the guest speaker. Coach Tecklenburg based his remarks on the hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa, scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service. Drawing from his years of experience and lessons he learned from his grandfather and decades of leading teams and school districts, he shared simple, clear, and profound advice for LCC’s newest Phi Theta Kappa members. Humility, kindness, integrity, and doing the right thing even when no one else knows it are the components of excellence in any aspect of life, whether it is in school, sports, family, or career.

Phi Theta Kappa is an international scholastic honor society to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. The Beta Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa promotes academic excellence at LCC and is active on campus. Membership is by invitation, based on the student’s overall GPA and level of credits completed. Induction of new members occurs every fall and spring semester.
