LCC welcomes 18 new academic employees this fall

There will be a crowd of new faces on the Lamar Community College campus this fall.  LCC will welcome 18 new instructors and academic support staff members, each with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Academic Achievement

Jerry Roseberry will join LCC this fall to teach Advanced Academic Achievement (AAA 109).  Mr. Roseberry has years of experience in teaching music and coaching; he currently works in Social Services in Prowers County.

Agriculture

Curtis Tempel will take on five courses as a full-time faculty member in the Agriculture department.  Mr. Tempel is a graduate of West Texas A&M University and is the CEO/Operations Manager for Tempel Farms and Big Bend Farms.  He was recently appointed to represent Colorado in Washington DC as part of the National Farmers Union Farm Policy Committee.

Breanna Grebin will take over as the lead instructor for the Equine Business Management Program. Ms. Grebin is also a graduate of West Texas A&M University and Black Hawk College with expertise in Agribusiness Equine Industry.  She has worked for Vector Marketing and the National Reining Horse Association. In Intercollegiate Horse Judging, she ranked in the top five individuals in all major competitions and won the reasons category at the AQHGA World Show in the senior college division.

Art

Kevin Foster will teach two Jewelry and Metalwork courses this coming semester (ART 133, ART 233).  Mr. Foster is a skilled artist who works as a fulltime gunsmith in the Prowers County Area.

Jason Gorcoff comes to LCC via Santa Fe where he worked as an independent artist and college instructor.  He will teach Drawing (ART 121, Art 221), Art Appreciation (ART 110), and Mixed Media I: Digital Art (ART 149) this fall. Mr. Gorcoff studied sculpture and drawing at Maine College of Art and received his Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Indiana State University.

Business

Jessica Anderson, who currently is a Concurrent Enrollment Instructor at Pritchett High School, will take on the additional duty of teaching the Tax Help Colorado Program.  Ms. Anderson will serve as the lead instructor and Tax Help Event Organizer.

Construction Trades

Tim Courkamp actually began working at LCC this past spring semester and will return to LCC this semester to jump start LCC’s new Construction Trades program which will consist of four stackable certificates.  Mr. Courkamp has many years of experience as a local contractor.  He is also a graduate of LCC.

Rod Dunn will also share his many years of experience as a contractor with Construction Trades students. He will be joining Mr. Courkamp this fall in working towards LCC’s new Construction Trades Program and teaching OSHA – 30 hour Construction Industry Standards (OSH 126). He will also be teaching Renewable Energy courses.

Luke Richard, who currently teaches at Lamar High School, will teach Computer Aided Drafting (CAD 101) as an adjunct instructor.  Mr. Richard also uses his CAD skills as a volunteer Master Certified Trainer with LCC’s new Innovate & Make Space.

Cosmetology

Kendra King returned to LCC this summer to teach the Nail Technician program, during which time she was hired as the full-time Cosmetology faculty member.  Ms. King has over 10 years of experience in cosmetology and has already made significant changes in the department in the short time she has been at LCC.

EMT

Heather Burkhart recently joined Lamar Community College as the EMT Program Coordinator. Ms. Burkhart has years of experience as an EMT.

General Education

Chris Brunner will be teaching Quantitative Literacy (MAT 050) as an adjunct instructor. Mr. Brunner is a graduate of University of Wisconsin, River Falls, where he studied Biology and Minored in Math.

Innovate & Make Space

Laura Misenheimer was hired earlier this year to manage the new Innovate & Make Space.  She has been hard at work this summer preparing the Art classrooms, planning the space, and purchasing new and exciting equipment including a 3D printer, laser cutter, industrial sewing machines and more.  Mrs. Misenheimer also works as a tutor in LCC’s Tutor Lab.

Sports & Exercise Science

Jonathan Hughes will be joining LCC as the new Sports & Exercise Science instructor and Athletic Health Advisor.  Mr. Hughes earned his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from Central Washington University and Masters of Science from California University of Pennsylvania in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. He has over 10 years work experience in physical therapy and athletics.

Physical Education

Tim Baker will teach a new physical education course: Aikido.  Mr. Baker is skilled in the art of Aikido and has taught at Wild West Gym.

Academic Support Staff

Dr. Rosalind Smith will take on a new role at LCC this fall as the Retention and Transfer Counselor and CTE Retention Coordinator.  She has been an adjunct instructor in Psychology for the last few years.  Dr. Smith earned her Doctorate of Psychology at University of Denver, after obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree at St. Cloud State University and a Master’s of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University.

Amy Schmeckpepper recently took over as LCC’s Student Success Navigator, but has also taught Developmental English courses and is the Assistant Softball Coach.  Ms. Schmeckpepper earned her Bachelor’s degree in History and Master’s Degree in Teaching from the University of Puget Sound.

Tammy Saueracker will join the Testing Center staff this fall as the Testing Coordinator Assistant.
