Lamar Community College expands Construction Trades offerings

In addition to the Construction Trades Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree currently offered at Lamar Community College, students will have the opportunity to take an introductory certificate starting Fall 2017: Construction Trades Essentials.

This certificate will give the students a jump-start into Construction Trades at LCC including an introduction to carpentry, computer-aided drafting, hand and power tools, and OSHA industry standards, all while getting plenty of hands-on experience.

All courses in the Essentials certificate are taught on-campus at LCC by Tim Courkamp and Rod Dunn, who have many years of experience in the industry.

Each course will include hands-on projects.  For example, students in a roofing course this spring framed, finished, and roofed a small structure to be used as shelter for the Rodeo team’s goat stock.

All courses also fit within the larger Construction Trades A.A.S. degree, making for a seamless transition for those who wish to continue their education.

Lamar Community College will continue to expand the program and is currently working on adding three more certificates: Exterior Building Construction, Interior Building Construction, and Mastery Building Construction.  Once all three certificates receive state approval, they will be stackable and ultimately culminate in the Construction Trades A.A.S. degree.
