More than 800 high school students attend Lamar Community College’s Future Farmers of America regional contest

(Lamar, Colo.)— Over 800 high school students from across Colorado and neighboring states converged at Lamar Community College (LCC) for Future Farmers of America (FFA) Regional Career Development Events (CDEs) on April 6. LCC hosts the regional contest each year and is one of the largest FFA events in the state.
Students participated in CDEs in several categories, including ag sales, crop identification, dairy cattle, employment skills, farm business management, floral, food sciences, livestock evaluation, etc. Each event’s first-place winners received a $500 scholarship to LCC and a plaque, and the top teams received a first-place plaque.
For the last two years, the college has not held the contest due to the COVID-19 pandemic and associated travel restrictions. LCC Interim Dean of Instruction Greg Cash said the event’s return had positive reaching implications across campus and the town of Lamar, Colo.
These students are the best of the best, and we are proud to have them,” Cash said. “Having them back here means the world to us, and we love encouraging them to work hard and show off all that they have learned.”
