LCC hosts successful Open House

Lamar Community College hosted its annual Open House on March 2, nearly tripling attendance from last year’s event.  Attendees to the Open House could get all the information they needed from application to enrollment including exploring degree options, learning how to pay for college and finding available scholarships and even touring campus.

The event featured staff from all areas of the LCC campus, allowing attendees to meet one-on-one with department faculty heads, instructors, and financial aid representatives.

Departments featured at the Open House included Admissions, Financial Aid, Learning Support Services, the Bookstore, Athletics, and academic programs like Business, Nursing, Horse Training & Management, Agriculture, Construction Trades, Welding, Cosmetology, Sports & Exercise Science, and Arts & Sciences.

High school students from all over southeast Colorado attended the event, including several area sophomores.

“We had an impressive turnout this year and it was great to see so many younger students being involved and learning about the college process that early in their high school careers,” said LCC Coordinator of Recruiting, Tori Hawks.

New to the event this year, and a potential draw for the younger area high school students, was a session on concurrent enrollment through which they could learn how to earn college credit while still in high school.

“This year’s Open House went really well,” said Hawks.  “And for anyone who couldn’t make it to campus that night, you can still book a campus tour and come learn what LCC has to offer you.”
