Early College Awareness

ASPIRA’s Early College Awareness programs connect middle and high school students to college life before they graduate. Through hands-on events, classroom visits, and campus experiences, we help students explore future pathways and build confidence about continuing their education.

What We Offer
  • In-School Presentations: LCC staff and Student Ambassadors visit classrooms to talk about college readiness, career exploration, and the skills that matter both on campus and on the job.
  • Campus Visits: Students can tour the campus, meet faculty, and participate in engaging, age-appropriate activities.
  • Family Engagement Nights: We host events that support families in understanding the college journey.
  • Themed Workshops: Sessions focus on goal setting, professional habits, careers, and the transition from high school to college.
Who We Serve

Our early awareness programs are designed for 8th–12th grade students in Lamar and other southeastern Colorado schools. We offer additional supports for students and families:

  • from Hispanic backgrounds and/or bilingual households
  • OR facing financial barriers
  • OR with first-generation* college-goers

*First-generation college-goers refers to any student whose parents/guardian have not completed a bachelor’s degree. You are still considered first-gen if one or both of your parents attended some college or even earned an associate’s, or if you have a sibling that attended college.
