Lamar Community College and the LCC Foundation continually support area students through ongoing scholarship and financial aid opportunities. Multiple scholarships are still available for the upcoming academic year, including two significant scholarships: the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) funds and the Quarterly Forum Scholarship for service area students of all ages.
When layered with other financial aid, these scholarships have the potential to cover most, if not all, of a student’s cost of attending college.
“Make an investment in your future. Leverage scholarships and grants to make your educational dreams come true while minimizing the necessity for student loans,” commented Anne-Marie Crampton, executive director of the LCC Foundation. “It’s never too late to start a meaningful, new career.”
To qualify for a COSI scholarship of up to $1,000 per semester, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Colorado resident (for tuition purposes) and U.S. citizen
- Resident of Baca, Bent, Cheyenne, Kiowa, or Prowers county
- Have a documented family income of 250% of Pell eligibility (EFC up to 13320 in 2017-18) as documented by FAFSA
- Plan to complete a certificate of study or associate degree at Lamar Community College
- Participate in LCC’s Learning Support Services while attending LCC, including tutoring, counseling, workshops, and other services that assist students to persevere in college and complete their studies
COSI Scholarships are renewable for upcoming academic years.
COSI and Quarterly Forum scholarships share the application requirements listed above; however, Quarterly Forum awards are up to $2,500 per semester. Quarterly Forum Scholarship applicants must plan to complete their course of study in the 2018-2019 academic year. Also, students who meet any of the following criteria will be given additional preference in the Quarterly Forum selection process:
- First generation college student who is motivated to become a leader in Southeast Colorado and beyond; or
- Minority applicant; or
- Career & Technical Education student, i.e. Allied Health/Nursing, Welding; or
- Intend to complete studies in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Secondary Ed discipline
”Quarterly Forum Scholarship funds are sunsetting in the next academic year. This gives students with significant concurrent enrollment or previous college credit a nudge to complete their degrees by May of 2019,” explained Crampton.
July 1 is the deadline to apply to either scholarship. Students interested in applying can do so online at lamarcc.edu/scholarships.
Selections for Quarterly Forum scholarship recipients will take place first. If qualified applicants do not receive a Quarterly Forum scholarship, they will be automatically considered for a COSI award.
While applying for the COSI and/or Quarterly Forum Scholarships, students should consider applying for other awards that are still open. A student can apply for multiple scholarships at one time.
