The Lamar Community College Cosmetology students hit the ground running this week, starting classes on Tuesday, May 29, and preparing to welcome the public into the Salon one week later. The Salon will open its doors to the public on June 5, starting at 1:00pm, and host its first event of the summer two days later.
The LCC Salon invites the community to join them for their Aloha to Summer event on Thursday, June 7, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The Nail Tech students will be giving discounted manicures and pedicures, plus the event will feature some tasty treats and fun for all.
Kendra King, Cosmetology faculty, is excited for the opening day.
“We have a great group this summer; lots of energy and eagerness to learn,” King said. “Our returning Cosmo and new Nail Tech students are excited to try the skills they are learning in class on clients in the Salon.”
Fun celebrations like Aloha to Summer have become part of the LCC Cosmetology and Barbering tradition since King took over the program last summer.
“These events help break up the monotony of dress code and let the studnts have a fun day once in a while. They are always well-received by our clients and the students and I look forward to these days,” King said. “Aloha Day is the first of two events we will have this summer at the LCC Salon. Red, White and Blue day will be on Thursday July 5.”
In addition to special events, the Salon keeps regular hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:00-5:00pm, and Thursdays from 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00-5:00pm.
Students in the Cosmetology department focus on nails over the summer, with students completing the Nail Tech certificate.
“Summer is all about fingers and toes! We just received three new pedi chairs and would love for you to come out and try our new chairs and pamper yourself this summer,” King said.
The salon will continue to offer a full range of services. LCC students and community members alike can visit the salon to take advantage of discounted services such as haircuts, colors, and styling as well as brow and lip waxing services, manicures, pedicures, and more.
