LCC’s Beta Eta Gamma named a 2017 REACH Chapter

The Lamar Community College Beta Eta Gamma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa attained REACH Reward status this past semester due to the chapter’s high acceptance rates.

REACH stands for recognizing excellence in acceptance and completion with honors.  Phi Theta Kappa launched the REACH Rewards last year to recognize and reward Phi Theta Kappa chapters that excel in the area of membership development.

Chapters who achieve or exceed 15 percent of their membership acceptance rate can gain REACH Reward status.

“Our chapter has a long record of exceeding the state and national average acceptance rates,” chapter advisor Kelly Emick said.  “The national average is around ten percent and our acceptance rate this year averaged 22 percent between fall and spring.”

This year was one of the largest graduating cohorts in the Beta Eta Gamma chapter’s history with 33 members receiving an Associate Degree.

For the reward, the LCC chapter received eleven Phi Theta Kappa stoles for graduation, which were worn by the Chapter Officers in the commencement ceremony.  The stoles will also be used for next year’s graduating officer.

Phi Theta Kappa calculates REACH Rewards using the number of new members in a chapter, the acceptance rate for the chapter, and the enrollment totals for the institution.  The number of rewards earned are based on the chapter’s size.
