Girls in the Middle returns to LCC campus on March 3

2018 Girls in the Middle logoThe 10th annual Girls in the Middle conference is coming up on Saturday, March 3, at Lamar Community College.  Registration for the event is now available at www.lamarcc.edu/GIM.

Girls in the Middle is a one-day conference that aims to introduce middle school girls to a wide range of career opportunities and encourage them to continue studying math, science, and technology as they continue their education. This year, the conference will urge attendees to channel their inner shark and “take a bite out of life.”

For the first time, 5th grade girls are invited to take part in the event in addition to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls who traditionally attend.

Girls in the Middle includes opportunities for attendees to interact with women working in a wide variety of professions and to explore those professions through hands-on activities.  This year will highlight careers in corporate wellness, entrepreneurship, audiology, agriculture, education, media broadcasting, and more.

Linda Clark, local businesswoman and entrepreneur, will be the day’s keynote speaker. In addition to her long-standing Play Clay business, in 2013 Clark and her daughter Gloria Hoffman successfully pitched their Simply Fit Board on ABC’s Shark Tank.  She is excited to speak with the young women at Girls in the Middle, to share her experiences and inspire attendees to follow their own dreams for the future.

Students interested in attending the conference, as well as the adults who will accompany them, are encouraged to register as soon as possible.  The fee to attend the conference, which includes lunch and a t-shirt, is $5 for those who register online before the event and $7 at the door.

Registration is available online at www.lamarcc.edu/GIM.
