The Financial Aid office at LCC is here to help you understand the different ways to make college more affordable.

The first step is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

Our FAFSA school code is 001355.

Keep that handy! You will be asked for it when filling out the application.

Before you begin, you and everyone who will contribute to your financial aid application will need to create an FSA ID. This is the username and password that will be used to log into the U.S. Department of Education website, and it is how you will electronically sign the application.

Make sure to select our school code: 001355

When applying, you and anyone contributing to your application (e.g., parent or spouse) are required to give consent and approval to have your federal tax information transferred directly from the IRS into your FAFSA form.

The Department of Education will send you an email when LCC has received your FAFSA information.

Apply for the FAFSA Online

Some students applying for financial aid are required to submit certain documents for verification. The Office of Financial Aid verifies applications selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education and others that have questionable information.

A W-2 form is one example of a document that may need to be submitted to the financial aid office.

Students who need to provide extra documents will get Missing Information Letters specifying what is needed.

Only download and complete the verification forms if the LCC Office of Financial Aid has requested you to do so.

COSI scholarships require students to complete the FAFSA or CASFA.

Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis to students who meet scholarship criteria and have completed the scholarship application by its deadline date.

Scholarships are reviewed each semester. If a student does not meet the satisfactory academic progress requirements or individual scholarship criteria, the scholarship will be canceled upon review.

Most scholarships are for fall and spring semesters. Some scholarships may be renewed for a second year.

Apply for Scholarships

LCC accepts Direct Stafford Student Loans from the U.S. Department of Education, and all LCC students may request one.

To apply, students need a current FAFSA and social security number. Base loan amounts are established by the Department of Education and are as follows:

Freshman (less than 30 credits earned): $3500 per academic year
Sophomore (30 or more credits earned): $4500 per academic year

Additional loan amounts above the base are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Veterans Benefits – G.I. Bill^®

Lamar Community College (LCC) is approved to certify veteran educational benefits as an Institution of Higher Learning by the Colorado Office of Veterans Education and Training and the VA Regional Office in St. Louis, MO. LCC assists the Veterans Administration through the Student Services Office by providing certification for educational benefits for Chapter 30 (Montgomery G.I. Bill® ), Chapter 33 (Post 911 G.I. Bill® ), Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation), Chapter 32 (Post-Vietnam era), Chapter 35 (Dependents Educational Assistance), Title 10, U.S. Code: Chapter 1606 (Selected Reserve Members) and Chapter 1607 (REAP), and Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP). Students eligible for any of these benefits must self-identify to Student Services.

The evaluation of previous postsecondary education and training is mandatory and required for VA beneficiaries. For students utilizing Veterans benefits who are approved for transfer credit as a result of this evaluation, the institution will grant appropriate credit, reduce the program length proportionately, notify the student and Veterans Affairs in writing of this decision, and adjust invoicing of the VA accordingly.

LCC complies with the Department of Education’s regulations regarding readmission for Service members and reservist under 34 C.F.R. 668.18. For more information contact Dorothy Choat.

LCC complies with Title 38 Section 3679(e) and will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds, on any covered individual because of the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement funding from VA under Chapter 31 or 33.

VA student’s records must be kept for 3 years following the ending date of the last period certified to VA. Referenced law: Title 38 CFR 21.4209(f)

National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)

The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) is the U.S. Department of Education’s central database for student financial aid records. Federal loans disbursed to students or parents will be submitted to NSLDS and will be accessible by guaranty agencies, lenders, and institutions determined to be authorized users of the data system. Student and parent borrowers can track and manage their federal student loans and grants online. The secured site displays information on loans and grants, including amounts, outstanding balances and status. Student and parent borrowers can also find contact information for their loan servicer.
