Lamar Community College held its 78th Annual Commencement this past Saturday, May 6, in the LCC Wellness Center. Leading the procession of graduates were LCC students graduating with honors.
“For our size, Lamar Community College has an impressive number of graduates achieving honor designations,” said Dr. Linda Lujan, LCC president. “To accomplish this distinction is a reflection of each student’s talent, hard work, and dedication. Our secret weapon is our remarkable group of faculty, who inspire and motivate students to excel.”
Top graduates this year at LCC include those graduating with academic honors from achieving a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or above as well as members of Phi Theta Kappa.
Summa Cum Laude graduates (4.0 GPA) include Kelsee Jo Bushell, Marissa Rae Castaños, Rebecca Sue Henderson, Taylor Kigerl-Hill, Adrienne Nichole Miller, Chloe Rose Santos, Jennifer N. Trujillo, Karina Vazquez, and Sarah Nicole Walsh.
Magna Cum Laude graduates (3.75-3.99 GPA) include Halbert Alvarez, Holly Elizabeth Anderson, Bailey Balbach, Sarah R. Bradley, Sydney Layne Casebolt, Tanaia L. Hansen, Paige Lavonne Kelly, Macy Jean Kennedy, Jose R. Lozoya Armendariz, Katryna Miller, Micah S. Middleton, Luis A. Ortiz, Jr., Robyn Gail Richardson, Jack H. Stamper, Matthew W. Phi Theta Kappa is an international scholastic honor society to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students as well as provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service, and fellowship.
To be eligible to become a member, students must have a 3.5 GPA after completing twelve or more college-level credits and be pursuing an AA, AS, AGS or AAS degree. Members who complete their degree with at least a 3.25 receive the official Phi Theta Kappa stamp on their LCC diploma.
“This year was one of the largest graduating cohorts in our Chapter’s history, with 33 of our members receiving one of LCC’s Associate Degrees,” said Kelly Emick, History faculty at LCC and one of the Phi Theta Kappa sponsors.
