LCC to host Grand Reopening for newly renovated lecture halls

The public is invited to a Grand Reopening celebration for the newly renovated lecture halls at Lamar Community College on Thursday, September 28, from 5:30-8:00pm in the Bowman Building.

The event will be hosted in conjunction with the Frontier History Encampment, an immersion experience through which visitors can learn about the American Frontier during the 19th century.

The grand reopening will feature Angel Vigil, one of the Encampment’s historic interpreters, as entertainment. Vigil will share the experience of a 19th century Mexican vaquero through the stories he tells, after which he will take questions from the attendees regarding the life of a vaquero or what it is like to be a living history interpreter.

The public is invited to come in for refreshments starting at 5:30, during which time they can visit the newly renovated lecture halls or peruse a static display depicting life in southeastern Colorado in the late 1900s.

“Over the years, we have had requests from community members for additional history of southeastern Colorado,” Kelly Emick said. “While the scope of the Encampment itself is just the 19th century, having this event beforehand allows us to expand that timeframe and share a little more history.”

The Grand Reopening will precede the Encampment and is set for Thursday evening, September 28.  The Encampment will follow on September 29, open from 12:00-5:00pm, and September 30, open from 9:00am-5:00pm.
