Lamar Community College is proud to recognize the following staff and faculty members who have been selected as Employees of the Year: Kendra King, Faculty; Kristin Lubbers, Administrator; Terry Comer, Classified Employee; and Daniel Westfield, Adjunct Instructor.
“Lamar Community College has some of the most talented, dedicated, innovative, and caring employees I have ever worked with. They are all outstanding,” said Dr. Linda Lujan, President of Lamar Community College. “So, it is especially meaningful for our college employees to honor their peers in this way. Congratulations to Kendra, Kristin, Terry, and Daniel on this well-deserved recognition.”
Each year the Colorado Community College System recognizes employees who have made a lasting impact on their institutions. This year, CCCS has chosen to host one combined event to honor all employees of the year, which will be held on April 10, 2019, at the Governor’s Mansion in Denver.
Kendra King – Faculty of the Year
Kendra King has served as the head of the Cosmetology Department at LCC for the past two years. She is passionate about her work and loves helping her students realize their potential. King is a licensed barber and cosmetologist in Colorado and licensed cosmetologist in Kansas, with twelve years of industry experience. In addition to teaching her students correct techniques, rules, and regulations, she helps her students to understand the impact they can have on the lives of their clients and the value of building trust.
King has gone above and beyond to improve her department, but what really stands out is how she cares for her students. Per her nomination, “Kendra loves what she does and works hard to ensure her students succeed. She takes an interest in each one individually, and routinely celebrates the accomplishments of each as they work through the process of becoming licensed professionals in their chosen field.”
Kristin Lubbers – Administrator of the Year
Kristin Lubbers is the Director of Marketing at Lamar Community College. For four years, she has hustled as a one-person department, handling everything from design and web maintenance to sports information and serving as LCC’s Public Information Officer. She is always working to improve and enjoys collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to support the success of each program, department, and organization within the college.
Per her nomination, Lubbers “always goes above and beyond to market the college in a positive way and to ensure the integrity and character of LCC in all her work. Her love and dedication for the college is apparent at every event, every game, and every step the college makes.”
Terry Comer – Classified Employee of the Year
Terry Comer is LCC’s Campus Safety Officer. For nearly four years, he has worked to ensure the safety of everyone on campus including students, staff, and visitors. With over 20 years’ experience in law enforcement and security, Terry has played a key role in updating emergency response plans and processes. Terry believes that building relationships is vital to his work and enjoys interacting with students and getting to know them.
“Terry puts his heart into his job. He is a great support and shows compassion for LCC and everything the college stands for,” said his nominator. “He is not just campus security; he is an onsite “dad” in the dorm. He listens and opens his door to give advice and better the students’ stay at the college. He ensures the students follow the rules and understand how to comply with them.”
Daniel Westfield – Adjunct Instructor of the Year
Daniel Westfield is the Art Instructor for Lamar Community College. He is passionate about teaching and encouraging students to see the world in new ways. In his second year, Westfield is helping grow and promote the Art department through launching a new Art Club and collaborating with LCC’s Innovate & Make Space.
As stated in his nomination, Westfield “has put an exceptional amount of energy into re-building the arts at the college and has deeply engaged students in learning.” Westfield goes beyond his work in the classroom to support and engage students.
“It’s the individual effort of every employee that makes all the difference in maintaining a high-quality learning environment to serve students and our communities,” Dr. Lujan said. “I know I speak for the entire college in congratulating this year’s winners and thanking them for their years of service and continued focus on student success at LCC. We are so fortunate to have such great employees.”
LCC’s Employees of the Year are selected by their peers: full-time faculty and staff within the college. All nominations and voting are done anonymously.
