Lamar Community College to host year-end celebrations

The academic year is quickly coming to a close and Lamar Community College is preparing for three big year-end celebrations: Nurse Pinning, Antelope Night, and the 79th Annual Commencement ceremony.  All events are open to the public, so anyone wishing to join in celebrating the accomplishments of LCC students are welcome to do so.

Dates and times for the events are as follows:

  • Nurse Pinning – Friday, May 4, at 11:00am in the LCC Wellness Center
  • Antelope Night – Friday, May 4, at 6:00pm in the Lamar Community Building
  • Commencement –Saturday, May 5, at 10:00am in the LCC Wellness Center

The Annual Nurse Pinning ceremony is a time-honored tradition celebrating the accomplishments of students completing either the Level I (Practical Nursing) and Level II (Associate Degree in Nursing/Registered Nurse) programs.  In this ceremony, students participate in the lighting of the Florence Nightingale Lamp, as well as have a registered nurse of their choosing place a special pin on his or her uniform.

Antelope Night is LCC’s student awards night, celebrating student accomplishments both inside the classroom and out.  All students, faculty and staff, are encouraged to attend along with the students’ family and friends.

Finally, the academic year truly culminates with the 79th Annual Commencement Ceremony held on Saturday, May 5.  Over 200 degree or certificate-seeking students are eligible to walk in commencement, including fall 2017 graduates as well as spring and summer 2018 candidates for graduation. The event will feature student addresses by graduates Laura Lindholm and Michelle Batista-Majalca, and a keynote address from Dr. Kim Hunter Reed, Executive Director for the Colorado Department of Higher Education.

No tickets are required for admittance to any of the events.

To reduce congestion during each of the ceremonies, friends and family members are encouraged to take photos from their seats.  Additionally, graduates and their families may choose to take photos before entering the building or after the ceremonies have concluded.

The Nurse Pinning and Commencement ceremonies will also be livestreamed so that family members and friends who are unable to attend may also view the ceremonies.  A link will be available on the LCC website at www.lamarcc.edu/graduation.
