Lamar Community College Shares Virtual Commencement Ceremony

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Lamar, CO) – Lamar Community College recently shared its virtual ceremony and student recognition slideshow to celebrate the college’s 81st Annual Commencement.

The ceremony was presented to graduates and the community across Lamar’s social media platforms and the college’s website on Friday, May 8th. Along with the Commencement Ceremony, a student recognition slideshow was also created to honor this year’s graduates. All graduate recognitions can be viewed at lamarcc.edu/graduation.

“Despite our hopes for one last gathering to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates, we made the difficult decision to cancel in-person events through the end of May,” said Dr. Linda Lujan, President. “This includes year-end celebrations such as the 81st Annual Commencement, Antelope Night, and the Nursing Pinning Ceremony. We are disappointed, but believe this decision is in everyone’s best interest.”

Instead of in-person events, LCC’s Annual Commencement, Antelope Night and Nursing Pinning ceremonies will be placed on the college’s website and shared from the college’s social media accounts over the next several weeks.

“The Class of 2020 will be able to view speeches, see their names in our slideshow, and see and hear from fellow graduates as well as faculty and staff. We will also be mailing diplomas/certificates, official transcripts, and diploma covers so we ask for graduates to please make sure their mailing address is correct in their student portal,” Lujan added.

Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to use #LopesGrad2020 when posting their recognitions on their personal social media accounts so everyone can join in the celebration.

Additionally, the graduates of 2020 and their family and friends are invited to return to Lamar Community College to participate in the 82nd Annual LCC Commencement Ceremony on May 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the LCC Wellness Center.

“If graduates are able to attend, we are planning a special recognition for the Class of 2020 during the 2021 ceremony. More information will be provided next year,” Lujan said. “Congratulations to all graduates and thank you for allowing us the opportunity of educating you and your fellow peers.”

Any graduates who may have missed the deadline for providing their picture may send pictures, quotes, or thank you’s to StudentServices.LCC@lamarcc.edu before May 20, 2020 to be added to the current celebrations.
