Lamar Community College Holds Annual Spring Horse Show

Lamar Community College (LCC) recently held its annual Spring Horse Show at the LCC Indoor Equine Complex.

The April 26 show, judged by 2014 LCC Horse Training and Management (HMT) program alumnus Haley Paradis, recognized students who performed exceptionally this past semester.

Horse Training students receive instruction from Jason Kravig. This year, student Cole Shaffer received a belt buckle for being recognized as the top Male HTM student, while Kirstin May received a belt buckle and handcrafted set of spurs for being the top Female HTM student and HTM Student of the Year. HTM Student of the Year runner-up Caysie Medeiros was presented with a snaffle bit and local resident Maddison Summers, who placed third in the horse show, was named most improved student and received a belt buckle and headstall.

In addition to horse training, Equine Business Management (EBM) students, under the instruction of Breanna Grebin, were recognized. May received the program High Point award, with Gabrielle Stephens placing second. Elise Fens was named the most improved EBM student and Lauren Urista received a set of spurs for being named the program’s Student of the Year.

LCC holds free horse shows each semester. The next show will be the college’s Fall 2019 show on Friday, Nov. 22. Students interested in enrolling in LCC’s nationally recognized HMT programs are encouraged to apply. Interviews for next semester are scheduled for May 22, June 11 and July 15.
