The Associate of Science in Sports & Exercise Science combines rigorous coursework with practical learning experiences to prepare students for transfer into bachelor’s degree programs and future careers in health, fitness, and human performance. Students develop a strong understanding of human anatomy and physiology, health assessment, exercise principles, injury prevention, and wellness while learning to evaluate information using current scientific evidence and professional best practices.
This degree is designed to prepare students for continued education in bachelor’s degree programs such as Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Pre-Physical Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Medicine, and other health- and human performance-related disciplines. Students also have the opportunity to prepare for the National Council on Strength and Fitness Certified Personal Trainer (NCSF-CPT) examination. Successful completion of the examination results in certification as a Certified Personal Trainer.
Program graduates will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and exercise science principles to promote health, fitness, and physical performance.
- Demonstrate appropriate techniques for the care and prevention of athletic injuries while understanding the scientific principles that support injury prevention.
- Evaluate health, fitness, and lifestyle factors that influence individual wellness using current assessment methods.
- Develop safe, individualized exercise and wellness programs using evidence-based guidelines and professional standards.
- Analyze scientific information and apply evidence-based practices when making health, fitness, and wellness recommendations.
- Demonstrate critical thinking, professional communication, ethical decision-making, teamwork, and employability skills expected in healthcare and fitness professions.
- Have the option to take the National Council on Strength and Fitness Certified Personal Trainer (NCSF-CPT) examination.
