Area residents interested in addiction counseling can earn their Certified Addictions Counseling Level I (CAC I) certificate this summer through a cooperative agreement between Lamar Community College, Otero Junior College and Trinidad State Junior College.
The CAC I Certificate program will include online classes through Lamar Community College and in-person classes at Otero Junior College. Students interested in taking the course of study must apply for admission to Lamar Community College and register for classes by June 28.
The first of three in-person classes are scheduled to begin at Otero Junior College on July 13-14. A second class will run from July 27-28 and a final class will be held July 29-30. All other coursework will be done through an online format.
Students who successfully complete the 8-credit program will have the training in addiction counseling techniques to work effectively within a variety of treatment settings and with diverse addictive behaviors.
