LCC has approximately 80 work-study positions available each year for students who qualify.  These student employees may help a particular office or academic department on campus, and each position has its own qualifications and expected duties.  Explore the positions below and find which ones may be the best fit for your interests and skills.

Career & Transfer Center

This position assists the Career and Transfer Counselors with various duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

General Laborer, Physical Plant

This position provides a variety of general labor work for the Physical Plant at Lamar Community College. Work assignments are accomplished under close supervision and are subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion.

HTM Department

There are six position types available to work-study in the HTM Department. They include: office help, stall cleaner, manure pit cleaner, facilities custodian, stall maintenance, and hay crew.

Office Help

The duties of this person are to help with quick books, mailing, and other office duties. Also, they will be calling clients to confirm horses coming to the program. They will work with the instructors to summarize the barn book and invoices. They will also help with recruitment, and organizing interview days. This person will be shared by all three instructors. He or she must be attention detailed, self-motivated, punctual, and trustworthy.

Stall Cleaner

These individuals will be responsible for caring for and cleaning at least six stalls and horses, possibly seven days a week for the instructors. They will also be responsible for caring for and cleaning stalls for students who are absent from class that day as requested by the instructors. He or she must be attention detailed, self-motivated, punctual, and trustworthy.

Manure Pit Cleaner

The duties of these individuals will be to push up and hall manure out of the pits. This is an everyday task. With 95 stalls keeping the pits pushed and hauled out will be essential. Duties will also include the emptying of outside and inside trash containers. These individuals will be required to take the tractor driving training. He or she must be attention detailed, self-motivated, punctual, and trustworthy.

Facilities Custodian

Duties will be to clean the demonstration room (vet room), empty all trash cans and general pick-up in the arena and stall areas. This person will also work with ground in all arenas. They will be required to take the tractor driving training. He or she must be attention detailed, self-motivated, punctual, and trustworthy.

Stall Maintenance

This person will be responsible for maintaining all stalls in the large barn and block barn. This will include replacing boards, attaching feeders, repairing doors, oiling stalls, and keeping twine picked up. This person will also be asked to paint panels, fences, etc. and water arenas. Also they will maintain and update stall labels of owners and students. He or she must be attention detailed, self-motivated, punctual, and trustworthy.

Hay Crew

These individuals will be responsible for keeping all hay storage areas full for feed crews. They will also keep track of the hay hauled and help with the duties of setting up cutting pens, and keeping good ground in the eight round pens. It is estimated that approximately 180 bales per week will be needed. They must be physically able to lift 60-90 lbs bales. These individuals will be required to take the tractor driving training. He or she must be attention detailed, self-motivated, punctual, and trustworthy.

Innovate & Make Space

This position assists the Innovate & Make Space Manager in the day-to-day activities of the new Innovate & Make Space.  This space is located in the existing art room (Betz 100) and this position will work alongside the Manager and art instructors to bring digital arts to the LCC students and the community of Lamar.  This maker space currently houses the following equipment:  Trotec laser cutter, Roland vinyl cutter, Roland MDX-40A milling machine, Makerbot and Afinia 3-D printers, and a hand-held router.  Computer programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, and Tinkercad are used to complete projects.

Responsibilities

  • Learning how to run the maker space equipment and software in order to help others in the space
  • Researching maker space projects and articles online
  • Checking in visitors and making sure that all are signed in
  • Possibly traveling to events in Lamar to promote the Innovate & Make Space
  • Cleaning of equipment and space
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Learning Support Services

Work-study students will perform various tasks including answering phones, provide technical support, identify helpful resources, and fulfill administrative duties as assigned by Learning Support Services staff. Students must also be task oriented and must be able to provide strong customer support in the areas of D2L, LopeAccess, student email, printers, scanners, as well as, computer related issues. Hours needed are days/afternoons and possibly some evenings.

Marketing

This position works within LCC’s Marketing Department assisting the department Director with all marketing and PR tasks, including but not limited to: press releases, advertising, photography, web design, print design, and compiling and reviewing data.

This position is responsible for keeping order in the weight room to ensure a safe environment.

Responsibilities

Sports Information

Work-study students will perform a variety of tasks in relation to publicizing the LCC Athletic department.

Responsibilities

  • Live stream athletic events on campus including video and score keeping

Business Office

This position assists Business Office personnel with various duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

The main responsibility in the business office will be to complete all scanning into our imaging system for human resources and finance. In addition to scanning, this person may be involved with the mail, fleet, filing, running errands, etc.

Qualifications

Self-starter, organized and dedicated. Must be eligible for Colorado Work Study within financial aid package. Must be able to keep information seen and heard confidential. We prefer that this person be an eligible student throughout the Summer.

Student Services

Student worker/team member assists all Student Services staff members in coordinating office procedures or activities. This position requires a responsible individual with some supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Smile and be productive in your work at all times
  • Excel academically in college courses to maintain your employment
  • Report to assigned supervisor at scheduled work times (check in/out)
  • Be cordial and assist all students, faculty, staff and visitors entering as well as conducting business in the office
  • Answer and screen telephone calls in the absence of supervisor or office assistant personnel
  • Transfer telephone calls to appropriate personnel or record an appropriate message
  • Scan and check student records using proper equipment and technology as assigned
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
  • Type material as requested and make necessary photo copies
  • Fax material from proper equipment and run errands on campus as assigned
  • Separate and label outgoing mail as assigned
  • Assist in maintaining office supply inventory
  • Clock in/out using a sheet of paper as well as on the computer (understand falsification of time worked constitutes as payroll fraud)
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned by supervisor or the Student Services team members

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Attention to detail is a must. Demonstrate a pleasant and willing attitude. Strong communication skills including excellent active listening skills using both verbal and non-verbal forms of communication. The ability to handle confidential matters and to be professional. Provided strong technical support in the areas of D2L, LopeAccess, student email and other computer related areas. Ability to build rapport with others. Reliable, punctual and ethical. Positive attitude and patient demeanor. Ability to follow through on tasks assigned. Good computer skills. Related work experience preferred, but not required.

Hours/Schedule

Hours needed are mornings and afternoons. Students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week. Please note that the 20 hours per week limit is inclusive of all employment. For example, if a student works 15 hours a week in one job, he/she may only work 5 hours a week in a second job. International students may not work at all.
