How do I locate materials in the LRC?

In addition to the print collection, the LRC subscribes to EBSCOhost, an online  periodical database.  The library catalog is available for general use at a stand up computer station at the entrance to the reading area or from any other computer having internet access.  EBSCOhost may be accessed at the library’s public computers or from any computer having internet access. 

How do I check out materials?

An LRC user is welcome to borrow materials with a library card from the college library. To apply for a card, a picture id or a student id card must be presented at the Information Desk.  Students will be asked to provide their S number if they do not have their id card.  LRC staff will place a card with the due date in the material at the time of check out.

Materials on the Reference and Reserve shelves are for library use only.  Library users are welcome to copy those materials at their own expense and within the limits of copyright law.


How long may I keep materials?

Up to eight books – 2 weeks
Up to three DVD’s – 1 week
Up to three magazines – 1 week
Interlibrary loan materials will have a due date determined by the lending library.

Items may be renewed if no one has asked to use them. Any materials on hold for another patron may not be renewed. Interlibrary loan materials may not be renewed.


Where do I return materials?

Materials may be returned to the indoor Book Drop located next to the Circulation Desk or at a Book Drop located outside on Circle Drive near the Administration Building.

What happens if I keep materials past the date due?

Overdue items:

  • 1st Notice – No fine
  • 2nd Notice – Materials are now considered lost. Fines sent to Business Office, replacement cost plus non-refundable $15 fine each item. LCC students please note that your student account will be flagged and you will not be able to register for classes or order transcripts until your library charges are paid.
  • Replacement cost plus non-refundable $15 fine for each item – Card blocked.



How do I borrow materials from other libraries?

Interlibrary loan request forms are available at the Information Desk. Requests are forwarded electronically by library staff.  Requests are limited to two at a time. Copyright laws may affect items supplied, especially periodical articles.  Expect a minimum of two weeks for delivery.  Borrowing time is determined by the responding library.  Interlibrary Loan materials may not be renewed.  Out –of-state request fee is $5.00 per search, payable when the request is submitted.

May I send a fax from the LRC?

The LRC provides fax service for anyone who needs this service. There is an in state, out of state or out of country charge for all outgoing faxes. Charges are paid at the time of service. There is no charge for received messages.

Is a photocopier available for student and public use?

Service is available to everyone who enters the LRC. Users are requested to pay $.10 per page. Double sided copies are $.20 each. This machine automatically collates and staples copied materials. The staff welcomes the opportunity to assist you. The LRC complies with the Copyright Law; a notice is posted on the photocopy machine.

Does the library have wireless Internet access?

The LRC is a wireless zone available to student, faculty, and staff patrons.  LCC Public Access is an open shared network;  please use it responsibly.  The college recommends that you protect your computer with firewalls and anti-virus software to avoid computer viruses spread through open networks.  LCC is not responsible for providing technical support to public access Internet users.

Are computers available?

For your convenience, there are several adult computer stations.  One station will accommodate a wheelchair.   A computer pass is not required to use the these computers.  Please be aware that the LRC does not employ Internet filters.  There are no computers dedicated for use by minors.

The computers are print capable and deliver printed materials to the photocopier.  Color printing is not available. Students who log on to the computers using their S number may print from their Paper Cut account free of charge until the balance is used. While the student is logged in with their S number, Paper Cut will prevent printing if the account has a balance of zero pages or if there are fewer pages in the balance than in the document the student desires to print. Students will need to go to the Cashier’s office (located in the Betz Technology Center) during regular office hours to pay an additional $5.00 balance on their Paper Cut account. Students who have been logged in under the library’s default login may print without restriction at the rate $.10 per side, payable at the Circulation desk. Public users will be asked to pay $.10 per side for materials printed. 


Is bibliographic instruction offered to classes as well as individuals?

Our staff welcomes requests from those who wish instruction for their classes or individuals.
